This large wall hanging is all cotton with star sashing added to separate
the crazy pieced blocks. These blocks were made using a printed fabric foundation
sheet I developed as a teaching aide for my Crazy Quilting classes. Machine
stipple quilted. The wildflower images were computer generated: I scanned in
watercolor paintings of common Minnesota wildflowers into my computer then
printed them out on t-shirt transfer sheets. I then transferred the images
to white cotton using a hot iron. The resulting images have good detail but
the process stiffens the fabric slightly.
A newer product on the market is Bubble Jet Set which produces good clean
images that are not stiff. Bubble Jet Set is particularly effective in transferring
line images and lettering. It is commonly used in making quilt labels
where you want clearly legible lettering; I've even used it to reproduce recipes
of calorie-rich desserts in my Not Too Crazy About Dieting refrigerator quilt.
