WORKSHOPS AND CLASSES
I like to travel and I like to
teach so why not have me come teach to your quilting guild or at
your conference? Below is an

QUILT GUILD MYSTERY QUILT
Do you like quick, colorful scrap quilts but don't want to do
a lot of cutting? Do you like the
bright, bold look of Amish quilts but like using prints?
Would you like to leave a class with ALL THE BLOCKS
DONE? Let's combine all these in
this cooperative quilt guild mystery class.
Each student will be asked to bring small amounts of fabric
in specific colors which will be combined with a setting fabric
the teacher provides. You will sew
and cut certain shapes then swap and share with everyone else in
the class. You end up with 49 blocks
in a rainbow of colors which sew
together into a table topper.
Five designs for using these 49 blocks are presented ranging
in size from the table topper to lap quilts to a queen sized
quilt (additional setting fabric is available for purchase to
make additional blocks for the larger projects).
Included in the class price is 1 1/4
yards pre-shrunk setting fabric provided by the teacher.
Sewing level: need to be able to sew an accurate 1/4 inch
seam. This is a timed class and takes
3 hours should you wish to present it as an evening program.
TESSELLATING STARS is a rotary cut, machine sewn scrap
quilt using strips of many fabrics to create an interlocking
star pattern. Students will learn how
to mix fabrics for contrast or for color blending plus see how
the same pattern can look dramatically different just by the use
of color. No angles are cut, only
straight strips. A generous fudge
factor in this pattern makes it easy for beginners.
Five different colorations are
presented plus several different sizes.
CRAZY PATCHWORK USING YOUR SEWING MACHINE
Half day or full day class. Two or
four construction methods are covered plus basic embellishing
techniques such as satin ribbon roses and leaves, applying laces
and braids, some folded decorations plus how to heavily
embellish your block using your sewing machine's decorative
stitches. These blocks are made using
a fabric foundation to add durability to your quilt.
MANY samples are shown. If
you've always wanted to try a crazy
quilt, this is the class for you!
FULLED WOOL QUILTS: Recycle Old Wool into New Beauty
Learn how to process used wool clothing and woolen yardage to
make fulled wool, a fabric that does not stretch, has no bias,
is windproof and does not ravel.
Learn machine construction techniques for both straight and
curved seams to quickly make the most durable quilt top you will
ever own. Information on how to hand
dye wool will also be shared.
Embellishment techniques, both hand and machine, will be
presented.
WORLD TRAVELER: VARIATIONS ON TRIP AROUND THE WORLD QUILTS
The classic TATW quilt is easy and quick to construct.
In this class you will be
presented with three original variations on the classic design:
an interrupted, monochromatic variation using a dozen fabrics of
the same color, an Amish inspired vibrant version and batik
lovers version using 28 different batiks.
PINCUSHIONS: HISTORY, STYLES AND CONSTRUCTION
Learn the history and styles of pincushions including filling
and stuffing options. Five different pincushion patterns will be
presented (embroidered pin pillow, shrunken wool, radial,
three-dimensional and chair). Kit will include most of the
supplies for the first three pincushions (final embellishing
suggestions will be made). Students will start on pincushion in
class, finish at home. Kit: $12.00.
BATIK LOVERS CLASS
Do you have WAY too many batik fabrics because you just can't
resist buying them? This is the class for you!
Two designs will be taught: one is a strip piecing design
with all straight sewing, the second design is mostly straight
strip sewing with one angled seam. Both classes require
over 2 dozen batiks so you may have to go out and buy more!
Full day class. Students must be able to sew an accurate
1/4" seam.
BEYOND THE BOWL: Fabric Constructions Using Timtex.
Wall art, hot flash suppressors (fans), jewelry, needlecases, handmade books, pincushions, three-dimensional cards, neckpurses, placemats, Christmas ornaments, hat decorations….these are only a few of the things you can make with the new washable, fusible interfacing and your fabric scraps.
